Your article on Minocycline for stroke was good. It is surprising so many unrelated drugs are found to have so many other uses. Some have turned out to be quiet useful. Many just a hype. The example for previous one is Chloroquine in arthritis including the recent Chikungunya epidemic. i hope this minocycline is not just one of the later. Usually what happens is after some positive effect is found, many possible explanations (which are educated guesses) are given. Obviously only a large randomized, placebo controlled study with a large sample will be the answer. My comments is longer so i am posting it at my blog - smalltowndoc.wordpress.com

Hey, I'll take something to clear up my acne when I stroke out. I'll need all the self-esteem boosts I can get if I'm to be disabled.

"I can't walk nor talk very well, but my face is smooth as silk."

The minocycline trials from the Neuroprotection Exploratory Trials in Parkinson's Disease (NET-PD) are modestly promising in terms of long-term strategic intervention to protect dopamine-producing neurons. If you buy the concept that oxidative stress and superoxide dismutase are not friends of brain cells, and that minocycline is a safe, relatively well-tolerated agent overall, this is great news.
