I’m showing my age, but growing up in a house full of females, we were taught that most sports were not “lady-like” activities. Our grandmother (a teacher) allowed us to watch it because of all the geography we learned.
Jim McKay deciphered the mystery of sports for me and my sisters and instilled a sense of reverence for the abilities of amateur athletes. His reports from Munich gave us a window to view the horror of senseless hatred and bigotry.
