Dear Doc Grunt,
My mother REALLY DID SILP AND FALL in a WALMART. We actually have pictures of her bruised face and arms to prove it. She went to the ER and was treated here in Odessa. The store seemed very concerned about her at the time and told us they would take care of the bills. She was 78 at the time. Now, a yr lated they finally settled with her, after she had to obtained a lawyer just to get them to pay her bills. There was a loose place in the doorway that caused her to fall. All she ever wanted was for them to just pay her medical bills and, they refused saying that at her age people fall and it was not their fault. She did not get a large settlement either but, their lawyers are sure intimidating (as she had to give a deposition.) I do know that there are people out there trying to scam everyone. I work at an elementary school and believe me ,I see and hear all kinds of lies and excuses, probably the same kind of folks you see in the ER. I truely realize that big corporations get scammed but, I don’t see why they couldn’t have just followed through with what should have been such a n easy way of handling this situation instead of denying responsibility.
