This morning, I found out that thousands of dollars of charges had been made on two of my credit cards in the past two days. Now, the identity thieves are sitting in jail. This is how it happened. It involves identity theft, a careless thief, one pissed-off Ovid and lots of luck.
Ovid is the blogger, and it’s a very interesting story. More interesting than the last episode of 24 I watched, anyway.
That’s a great story! I recently found out some jerk had my Citibank number–how they got it I’ll never know. They proceeded to sign up for a buttload of magazines: Self, Cooking Light, etc. They also signed up with Columbia House Music–twice, BMG–twice, and bought some vitamins. The person clearly has no morals but it’s nice to know he/she is at least concerned with their health.
So how did they get your card number, and more importantly, get a Visa check? Those come to your house in the mail. Did they steal your US mail?

I wish it was this cut and dried for the rest of us who have been/continue to be scammed.
