Dorothy Ann Richards (September 1, 1933–September 13, 2006) was an American politician from Texas. She first came to national attention as the witty keynote speaker at the 1988 Democratic National Convention (detailed below). Considered the first woman elected Governor of Texas in her own right, she served in that post from 1991 to 1995; she was defeated for re-election in 1994 by George W. Bush, current President of the United States.
I never voted for her (too young, then not my candidate) but she was always entertaining to listen to.
Esophageal cancer isn’t very common, and bad when it happenss Condolences to her family.
Over the years, Ann Richards made some really vicious comments about George W.
I’m having difficulty creating some empathy here.
She was a politician, and she’s dead now. Let it go.
She spoke her mind. When questions were asked, she gave straight answers. You knew where she stood. And she hardly invented the idea of attacking the opposition. She gave as good as she got, is all.
Despite her politics, you couldn’t help but like the old bird. I met her once and liked her right away.
I was too young to vote for her either and I’m not a democrat but I wish her and her family peace.
Sorry, I don’t buy that.
Some politicians choose to be mean spirited as a tactic of doing business, and it comes back to bite them. Think Tom DeLay, too.
Will anyone ever forget that gravity defying white hair?
I had the pleasure of meeting her in the late 80’s, charming lady, down to earth and you always knew what she had on her mind. I will miss her, she is quite a Texas legend.
I wish her family peace at this time.
