All right, I’ll bite. Darvocet is patient safety risk. Primatene mist is a minor air pollution problem. Why do you expect the FDA to treat them the same way?

We want to add to this text that we have studied the painkilling substance propoxyphene (DXP) since 1993. Now FDA says that ONE NEW STUDY made them stop Darvon. We have informed FDA about our research since 1999-2000, they know about our 8 scientific articles about the substance, we also wrote two doctorial dissertations (2000 and 2001) in Sweden.
We are actually the Whistleblowers about the painkilling substance Propoxyphene in the whole world and informed Public Citizen in 2002 and 2003. I personally met with Dr Larry Sasich at Public Citzen i Washington DC and informed the about our research.
Our research was behind the decision in UK, Sweden and The European Union (EU) to stop the drug. Go to this link,
As a general rule, you weaken your case and jump into the realm of zealotry with “Worst drugs ever” hyperbole. It also instantly brings your objectivity and credibility into doubt.
Wonder if kids affected by thalidomide, or people with heart valve damage from FenPhen would agree with you that a painkiller (that worked) is the ‘worst drug ever’.
I won’t bother looking up your references, you have no credibility by your own statements.
I would’ve thought that the title of “Worst Drug EVER” would be reserved for the Civil War era treatment for diarrhea (involved utilizing strychnine, mercury etc…). I guess if you kill you patient by poisioning them then technically you have cured their complaint.
Thank God the FDA finally got that black box warning on Inapsine. I have far fewer cases of Torsades now. (Sigh) It is a miracle I safely prescribed it for a decade. We also need some restrictions on honey for kids cough too. I fear an epidemic of botulism.
Boxes of Primitine Mist say: “This product will no longer be available after [X date] in 2012”. That’ll make you happy, right?
I’d say the “worst drug ever” moniker would belong to the some of the old treatments for amebiasis, which included such pharmacologic delights as carbon tetrachloride.
