I originally posted this on Twitter, but felt that since it’s really a blog post it belonged here.
So a couple of years ago, one of my kids who’s an adult had a medical issue that they didn’t appreciate the severity of, went to their PCP who did a good evaluation, correctly diagnosed their problem, and sent them straight to the emergency department. They were admitted, got excellent care and recovered.
Today that child had a visit with that same physician, and told the doctor that they were extremely grateful that he made the right diagnosis and sent them for the right care and they appreciated it and will always remember it.
It was described to me that the doctor choked up, and could be heard on the phone talking to another doctor about getting a compliment. I’m a doctor and very occasionally get compliments, but genuine compliments in a lot of fields of medicine are few and far between and I’m here to tell you they’re appreciated.
He’s going to remember that for a very long time, and I thank him for taking great care of my kid.
